Preventing and Treating Gingivitis

Gingivitis…you might think that is a cute name, but the disease is anything but that.  It is very serious, however because it is not like the pain of a toothache we tend to ignore it.  That is a really bad idea because research has shown a direct link of gum disease to diabetes and heart disease.  Is that enough to get you to take this subject seriously?

Let’s get familiar with the signs of gingivitis.  If your gums bleed even in the slightest when you brush or floss get to a dentist immediately!  Maybe there is just a redness or swelling in your gums.  Gingivitis can be reversed through frequent brushing, daily flossing, and regular cleanings by a professional.  If you ignore gingivitis you will probably eventually lose your teeth and have to have oral surgery.

You and your family deserve the best oral health care in Chicagoland.  If you live in the Carol Stream area you cannot do better than the full service dental practice of Dr. David Blackman DDS.  His practice is located at 400 North Gary Avenue.  Call them today at (630) 260-1700.  Gum disease must NOT be ignored any more than a toothache.

School’s Almost Out & A Bi-annual Dental Check-up Is In!

We have all heard the expression “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.  The phrase definitely applies to dentistry.  When you were a kid did you walk up to one of your parents and say, ”Hey, I haven’t been to the dentist for a check-up for a long time.  Shouldn’t we make an appointment”?  I didn’t think so.

Now that you are a parent of a school-aged kid (or kids) don’t wait for them to remind you.  The end of a school year is a perfect time to make one of their regular bi-annual dental check-ups.  If you stay on track the next one will be during holiday break.  Believe me, staying on schedule will potentially save you lots of pain and money.

Dr. David Blackman DDS should be your child’s preventative dentist.  If it ever becomes necessary for an emergency trip, then knowing your dentist ahead of time will be great as well.  If you live in the Bloomingdale, Wheaton, and Carol Stream area visit Dr. Blackman’s office at 400 North Gary Ave. or make an appointment by calling (630) 260-1700 today.

Learning More about Restorative Dentistry.

Restorative dentistry is defined by management of the diseases of the teeth.  Once the diagnosis has been made a professional in restorative dentistry will set up a treatment program to rehabilitate the structures.  This may encompass such procedures as endodontics, periodontics, and prosthodontics.  Restorative dentistry obviously means many things.

Some of the concerns that may be addressed include tooth color, missing teeth, teeth that have been chipped or cracked or are uneven, as well as the alignment of teeth remaining.  Needless to say, not every dentist is skilled in the art of restorative dentistry.  You need to find someone who has the latest technology.

Dr. David Blackman DDS and his staff will restore your smile through such modern dental miracles as veneers, snap on smiles, implants, and much more.  If you live in the Bloomingdale, Wheaton, and Carol Stream area visit Dr. Blackman’s office at 400 North Gary Ave. or make an appointment by calling (630) 260-1700 today.
