Back to School…Back to Dental Health.

Okay, it has been fun…hasn’t it mom and dad?  The summer is always too short and soon the harsh reality (or joy) of back to school will be here.  Let’s see…book bag - check, new shoes - check, new clothes - check, late summer getaway…hopefully, back-to-school bi-annual dental exam…definitely check!

August is a perfect time to have all of the minors (and adults if necessary) have their twice a year dental cleaning and exam.  The last thing that you want is to have to miss valuable school time and work time for the adults having to go to the dentist in the fall.  So, complete your checklist with a call to your favorite family dentist.

In the Carol Stream area that choice has been Dr. David Blackman DDS for many years.  Dr. Blackman and his great staff will examine, clean, and recommend any future dental needs that your family members may need.  You can count on and trust the Doctor and his staff to always pay close attention to YOUR dental health.  Call today for that August visit (630) 260-1700.

Meet the Blackmans.

No, this is not the new Ben Stiller movie.  This is your local Carol Stream dentist.  It is the staff of Dr. David Blackman.  We thought that mid-July would be a good time to become familiar with some of them.  We have talked about the doctors recently, but what about that fabulous support group.  Understand, this is just a short list.

Heather is the office manager that you get to visit at least twice a year and she will become your buddy.  Liz and Ashley are your dental hygienists.  They answer every question about your oral heath so you can keep that smile for the rest of your life.  Beyond that there is Laura and Kathy and Missy and many others.

Now, comes the part where we invite you to visit www.davidblackmandds.com.  When you do, click on the About Us tab of our informative website.  We hope that after that journey you will feel comfortable enough to pick up the phone and schedule a check-up with us at our office located at 400 N. Gary Ave. in Carol Stream by calling (630) 260-1700.

Summertime…Dental Time.

As we hit the month of May and Chicagoland schools will be recessing for a few months let’s turn our attention to our kid’s teeth.  That may be one of THEIR lowest priorities this time of year, but a conscientious parent will move it near the top of the list.  This is a perfect time of year to make a general dentist appointment for the minors in your family.

Get the check-ups and any needed dental work out of the way before vacation time really kicks in.  Who wants to go to the dentist in the middle of summer when there are so many family-oriented plans?  A general check-up may be all that your kids need.  That would be great to know, wouldn’t it?

There is no better general dentist in the Carol Stream area than Dr. David Blackman.  Dr. Blackman and his trained professional dental staff will handle everything from cleaning to orthodontics.  Think of it as a one-stop-shop for Chicagoland dentistry.  Call now for that late spring appointment at (630) 260-1700.

Public Safety and Dentistry.

It is a topic that we have not discussed in this space for some time, but it merits our periodic attention.  It is the issue of assuring that every dental patient is protected by initiatives that are focused on the safety of each and every individual who trusts that practice for their family’s complete dental care.

We hear the acronyms OSHA and HIPAA and often dismiss them as something that does not directly affect us, but they do!  Precautions must be taken to be compliant with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.  Anything less is unacceptable and you need to make sure that your dentist is health and safety compliant ALL of the time.

Here is a comforting reassurance.  The office of Dr. David Blackman DDS has received certification from Crosstex Biological Monitoring Service.  It protects patients and staff.  Your Carol Stream full-service dentist is always on the cutting edge of all safety procedures.  Schedule an appointment at the 400 N. Gary Ave. office by calling (630) 260-1700.

Your Smile has Great Potential!

Maybe you have reached your potential in your career, your physical health, your bank account.  What about the potential of having the most brilliant smile of your life?  This not only enhances your own self-esteem, but how others see you as well.  So often, a beautiful smile is the first ticket to success in life.

There are several areas to address when restoring your smile.  Among them are –

1.  The color of your teeth.  Bright white is always the goal.
2.  Replacing missing teeth with natural implants.
3.  Repairing a chipped or cracked tooth.
4.  Spacing and properly aligning your teeth.

With all of the innovations of modern dentistry you can achieve all of these goals.  The key is to have a real dental professional examine your mouth and make recommendations.  For decades that person has been Carol Stream, IL restorative dentist Dr. David Blackman.  Give the office a call for an appointment at 400 N. Gary Ave. at (630) 260-1700.

Spring and Fall Dental Cleaning.

So many of our bi-annual pledges and things we remember to do for ourselves and the products around us are tied to the calendar.  We change the batteries in our smoke detectors in the spring and fall.  We turn the clocks an hour around the same time.  Now, how about adding dental care to that list?

Those of us who want our smile to last a lifetime know that we need to have our teeth cleaned twice a year.  Maybe another dental visit or two will need to be added in 2017, but the cleanings are must-keep appointments.  Now that we are well into February the time has come to turn up clocks, change battery detectors, AND make an appointment for teeth cleaning.

What a great habit to get into!  Stay on track every year for the rest of your life and chances are you will enjoy great dental health for your lifetime.  It all starts with a phone call to your full-service Chicagoland dentist Dr. David Blackman.  Schedule a check-up soon and stay on track.  Call his 400 N. Gary Ave. office in Carol Stream IL. at (630) 260-1700.

Dental Health = General Health.

People often look at their overall health separately from their dental health.  We know that they are both vital to our long-term lifestyle, but many people are not aware that poor dental hygiene can and often DOES affect one’s general health.  Cosmetically, no one wants to hide their smile.  That is obvious, but when it literally can end up resulting in life or death now that’s an attention getter!

Are you aware that poor dental care often translates into cardiovascular disease?  When bacteria builds and builds in your mouth the next place it may go is into your blood stream.  When it continues to travel it can literally result in hardening of the arteries.  Diabetes may also worsen because blood sugar levels go haywire.

None of this is meant to scare you, but we hope that it serves as a wake-up call for 2017.  If you have neglected your teeth for a period of time it is not too late to save that smile…and eventually maybe your life.  It begins with an appointment at the office of Dr. David Blackman.  Schedule a check-up and cleaning today by calling his office located at 400 N. Gary Ave. in Carol Stream at (630) 260-1700.

Getting to Know Your Dentist.

If you think about it having a comfortable and strong relationship with your dentist and his/her associates is extremely important.  You would not trust your family’s dental health to just anyone would you?  The people that clean your teeth and assist the doctors should be hard working professionals with a strong dental background.

Doctor David Blackman, Dr. Kothari, and Dr. Eric Osmolinski have never been prouder of any group of assistants than they are with this group.  Somewhere along the way you will meet Heather, and Betty.  You also will have the opportunity to have hygienists Liz and Ashley work on you and your kid’s teeth.  And don’t forget Laura, Missy, and Kathy who round out the team.

Yes indeed, anyone with a license can open up a dental practice, but choosing whom to surround yourself with is what it’s all about.  Those of us lucky enough to live in the Chicago suburbs of Carol Stream, Bloomingdale, Wheaton, and the surrounding area just need to make an appointment at the 400 N. Gary Ave. office of Dr. David Blackman by calling (630) 260-1700.

A New Round of Dental Insurance.

The free money is here, the free money is here.  If you are fortunate enough to have dental insurance you probably know that every year the insurance “turns over”.  That means you have full new amount for 2017 just waiting to be used.  How about that?!  Can you think of another type of insurance that starts with a fresh batch of money every year?

What in the world are you waiting for?  It doesn’t matter if you just need a thorough cleaning and a check up or if all of those holiday treats have caused a toothache or two.  This is most definitely the time to call your dentist and make an appointment to start taking advantage of that insurance money you are entitled to.  It WILL go to waste if you don’t!

Dr. David Blackman, DDS has been serving the communities of Carol Stream, Wheaton, and Bloomingdale for more than three decades.  If you need a great full-service dentist today, featuring an incredible staff of associates, call his office for an appointment at their 400 North Gary Ave. location in Carol Stream at (630) 260-1700 and grin your way right through 2017!

Last Call for Dental Insurance.

I want to know who decided that.  Does your homeowners insurance expire at the end of the year?  How about your car insurance?  If YOU don’t expire does your life insurance do so at year’s end?  Of course they don’t!  None of that makes any sense.  Why does dental insurance NOT roll over into 2017?  It is one of life’s great mysteries.

You can’t fight it.  You must react to the reality of it all.  If you don’t use your remaining 2016 dental insurance money by December 31st it will not accrue into the New Year.  It is just that simple.  Why would you squander a perfectly good opportunity to get your teeth or your family’s mouths checked by the end of the year?

We know that you are busy during the holidays, but you are not in the habit of wasting money.  Make an appointment today with your Carol Stream area family dentist for a check-up.  If you live in the Wheaton, Bloomingdale, or Carol Stream area call (630) 260-1700 and save yourself a ton of dough just before they play Auld Lang Syne.

Holiday Dental Check-up.

This is an excellent time to beat the end of the year holiday rush to get that bi-annual dental check-up.  I know that there are several things on your list that you may feel take precedence over that.  Trust me, if you put it off now then you may procrastinate altogether.  This is an error in judgement that you don’t want to make.  Stay on schedule and preserve your smile!

By making an appointment in early November you will be fresh and clean throughout the holidays.  IF you need further dental care then you can get it done in 2016.  For many Chicagoans that could mean a great deal as far as dental insurance goes.  A healthy, beautiful smile knows no season, but let’s be honest you will probably be eating more good/bad stuff in the next two months.

Dr. David Blackman DDS serves the communities of Carol Stream, Wheaton, and Bloomingdale.  Best of all, he has been doing so effectively for over 30 years.  You’ll be comforted to know that he has never had a better group of assistants in his 3 decades!  Make an appointment for a fall/winter cleaning today at his office located at 400 North Gary Ave. in Carol Stream by calling (630) 260-1700.

A Dental Tip for All Athletes.

Whether you play offense or defense or both in your chosen sport(s) here is something that all athletes should do.  Defend your Smile!  A good sports mouth guard is an essential part of any sports uniform.  It matters not whether you play contact or non-contact sports.  If you have heard of the “boil-and-bite” mouth guard you know that may NOT be enough.

The American Dental Association reported that athletes without proper mouth guards are SIXTY times more likely to suffer harm to their teeth.  About half of all adolescents will suffer an injury to the mouth.  Of those, about one-third of them are sports related.  This is why you must strongly consider a custom-fitted sports mouth guard that is customized just for your athlete(s).

Dr. David Blackman DDS fabricates custom-fit mouth guards for as little as $60.   For an additional $20 you can add the name and number to the guard!   His office serves the communities of Carol Stream, Wheaton, Bloomingdale and the surrounding area.  Make an appointment for a custom athletic mouth guard at his office located at 400 North Gary Ave. in Carol Stream by calling (630) 260-1700.

Why Every Six Months?

We have heard for years that we need to visit our dentist every six months.  It doesn’t designate age or diet or quality of self-care.  It is a tried and true axiom…if you go to your dentist twice a year you will avoid future expenses, pain, and perhaps even more frequent visits.  You do other things in your life on schedule.  It is important that this becomes as routine as changing your car’s oil.

This is not some arbitrary number invented by someone just to make more money.  It has been proven over the years that if you get your teeth professionally cleaned and checked every half-year you will feel better, look better, and avoid potentially catastrophic dental problems in the future.  Gingivitis and periodontal disease are headed off before they become a major problem.

The suggestion here is to find a full-service dental office in the Carol Stream, Il.  May we recommend visiting the website of www.davidblackmandds.com?  Whatever dental need your family has can be taken care of by Dr. David Blackman and his staff.  Call the office of Dr. Blackman on 400 North Gary Avenue for an appointment today at (630) 260-1700.

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. My Teeth.

Do you suffer from sensitive teeth?  Don’t feel like the lone wolf.  Nearly half of all American adults suffer from tooth sensitivity.  It may be from cold or hot foods, certain liquids, sweets, etc.  A nationwide study of over 1,000 people age 18-65 tried various sensitive toothpastes.  In that group only about one-third found the trial to be helpful in any way.

So many factors contribute to the problem.  Just as there are dozens of causes there are also dozens of theories on how to improve the problem of sensitive teeth.  A few of these may be a build-up of plaque, or years of tarter, even dreaded gum disease itself.  It is vitally important that you get to the “root” of the problem…no pun intended…so that it can be treated.

In the Carol Stream area please call the dental office of Doctor David Blackman.  Browse the pages of www.davidblackmandds.com.  You will become familiar and confident with our staff.  We think you will see that for sensitive teeth the first step is to call the office of Dr. Blackman located at 400 North Gary Avenue for an appointment today at (630) 260-1700.

An Ounce of Prevention.

On this most important American holiday let’s remember the immortal words of founding father Benjamin Franklin…an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  It works in millions of different scenarios doesn’t it?  But that phrase is never more important than in dentistry.  You don’t want to have wooden teeth like George Washington do you?

The American Dental Association strongly recommends that you have your teeth checked and professionally cleaned every 6 months.  This not just common sense (Thomas Payne would appreciate that) it also will save you a ton of money and potentially a lot of pain in the future.  Remember what Ben also said…a penny saved is a penny earned.

When it comes to professional dentistry look no further than Dr. David Blackman.  Dr. Blackman is your choice for preventative dental treatment in Chicagoland.  Dr. Blackman and his staff do not wear powdered wigs, but they will give your mouth a sound foundation for the future!  Call the Carol Stream office today at (630) 260-1700 and make sure that your teeth last a lifetime.

Preventing and Treating Gingivitis

Gingivitis…you might think that is a cute name, but the disease is anything but that.  It is very serious, however because it is not like the pain of a toothache we tend to ignore it.  That is a really bad idea because research has shown a direct link of gum disease to diabetes and heart disease.  Is that enough to get you to take this subject seriously?

Let’s get familiar with the signs of gingivitis.  If your gums bleed even in the slightest when you brush or floss get to a dentist immediately!  Maybe there is just a redness or swelling in your gums.  Gingivitis can be reversed through frequent brushing, daily flossing, and regular cleanings by a professional.  If you ignore gingivitis you will probably eventually lose your teeth and have to have oral surgery.

You and your family deserve the best oral health care in Chicagoland.  If you live in the Carol Stream area you cannot do better than the full service dental practice of Dr. David Blackman DDS.  His practice is located at 400 North Gary Avenue.  Call them today at (630) 260-1700.  Gum disease must NOT be ignored any more than a toothache.

School’s Almost Out & A Bi-annual Dental Check-up Is In!

We have all heard the expression “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.  The phrase definitely applies to dentistry.  When you were a kid did you walk up to one of your parents and say, ”Hey, I haven’t been to the dentist for a check-up for a long time.  Shouldn’t we make an appointment”?  I didn’t think so.

Now that you are a parent of a school-aged kid (or kids) don’t wait for them to remind you.  The end of a school year is a perfect time to make one of their regular bi-annual dental check-ups.  If you stay on track the next one will be during holiday break.  Believe me, staying on schedule will potentially save you lots of pain and money.

Dr. David Blackman DDS should be your child’s preventative dentist.  If it ever becomes necessary for an emergency trip, then knowing your dentist ahead of time will be great as well.  If you live in the Bloomingdale, Wheaton, and Carol Stream area visit Dr. Blackman’s office at 400 North Gary Ave. or make an appointment by calling (630) 260-1700 today.
